Choose a time period from history. Which one of the four solstice/equinoxes would have
been the most important to this time period? Why?
Answer to:
STUDENT No. 1
Ann Thorsteins
The ancient Mayans celebrated the spring and fall equinox. This is represented at the temple
of Kukulkan in Chichen Itza, Mexico. The temple aligns perfectly with the equinox as the
sun descends. This is most likely so that they knew when to plant the seeds and when to
harvest it so that they had food for winter.
STUDENT No. 2
Eva Lewis-Bartley
I imagine that, at any point in history, the Spring Equinox would be very important. For
example, in the Middle Ages, the first signs of spring and summer would be a relief to all
the cold and they would finally be able to plant and harvest crops for food. The Spring
Equinox would bring more warmth and daylight which, in turn, would bring a bigger
surplus of food.
STUDENT No. 3
Connor Hicks
During the period 800 B.C. to 500 B.C. the winter solstice of Ancient Greece was a very
important celebration. For this time every year, the people of Athens throw a celebration in
his honor. Many greeks would set sail around the Mediterranean Sea knowing that their
celebrations would allow safe passage through the waters. There was also an increase of
fish caught for this festival to feed everyone and if there was an accident with a fisherman,
the people thought they weren’t in favor with the gods. This is why the Winter Solstice was
very important in Ancient Greece.

What part of the Solar System are you most interested in learning about? Why?
Answer to:
STUDENT No. 1
Isabella Oberto Monasterios
To me, the most interesting part of the Solar System, and the one I am the most eager to
learn about is the Moon. I have always thought it was intriguing, because when I looked up
at night, I believed it followed me, and I also wondered where its light came from. I think it
is very mysterious and I really want to know the details behind the Moon that lights up our
sky every night. Looking at the sky at night is very comforting to me, because I know that
thanks to the Moon it is not completely dark and I am not completely alone.

I’m interested in learning about everything, really, but I really like learning about distant
stars and what happens to stars after they die or how the universe moves.
STUDENT No. 3
Allie Tessman posted Mar 7, 2018 5:41 PM
I am most interested in learning about the asteroids, comets, meteoroids, and black holes.
The things that are not as widely talked about as the planets, moons, stars, and the Sun. I
would also love to learn more about the things outside of our galaxy. The unknown things
are something that people are most interested in, because it causes them to wonder. There
are so many questions that do not have answers, and this is only one of them.
