1. Fit the equation,y = a0 + a1x2, to the data below using v as the independent variable. Determine

the r2 for the fit and comment on the efficacy of the result.

3. The following data were gathered to determine the relationship between pressure and

temperature of a fixed volume of 1 kg of nitrogen. The volume is 10 m3. The molar mass of

nitrogen is approximately 14 g/mol. Employ the ideal gas law pV = nRT to determine R on the

basis of these data. Note that for the law, T must be expressed in kelvins.

4. Linearize the following model and use it to estimate α and β based on the data below. Develop

a plot of your fit along with the data.

Measurements on a number of individuals of height 180 cm and different weights (kg) give

values of A (m2) in the table below. Show that the power law A = aWb, fits the data reasonably

well. Evaluate the constants a and b, and predict what the surface area is for a 95-kg person.

6. The data below were taken from an experiment that measured the current in a wire for various

imposed voltages. (a) On the basis of a linear regression of this data, determine current for a

voltage of 3.5 V. Plot the line and the data and evaluate the fit. (b) Redo the regression and force

the intercept to be zero.
